The Kingfisher
A jewel hurtles through the humid air,
Stain glass colour blazing and dazzling
The kingfisher alights on the branch,
He perches –
Peter, casting his net into Galilee.
Jesus the King, fisher of all men.
Alongside those drowning,
Those searching, those waiting,
Involved with the ebb and flow of consuming currents,
Never aloof, never indifferent,
When the dark waters claim their victim.
A steady pilot guiding the searching soul.
Green helmet for the glory of creation.
Red breastplate for the sacrifice of Christ.
Blue cloak for the cleansing waters of the Spirit.
